School visits are welcome and we can cater for all
age groups.
Visits can be arranged on weekdays throughout the year by telephone
on 020 8947 2825.
We need to know:
• The date and time of the visit
• The name of the School
• A contact name and telephone number
• The number of children and adults visiting
• The approximate ages of the children
• Boys, girls or mixed
• If you require teacher’s notes
• If the visit relates to any current work in school
• If the children will be buying souvenirs
School visits are charged at £2 per child with accompanying
staff free. There is a minimum charge of £25.
We provide direct teaching using qualified staff and classes are
usually divided into groups of not more than 15 so that they can
see and handle the exhibits without overcrowding. Approximately
1 hour should be allowed for a visit by one class. If more than
one class is brought the other can visit the Information Centre
nearby or walk on the Common before changing over. (Some schools
within a reasonable distance find it possible to shuttle children
by bus). There is parking space for cars and coaches close to the
museum. If using public transport the nearest bus stop is about
1/4 mile from the museum (see How to
Get There). There are no facilities for eating lunch in the
Museum but there is a café adjoining and in summer the Commons
provide a good site for picnics
